DESCRIPTION:Between the Portuguese Carnation Revolution of 25 April 1974 an
 d the world-acclaimed proclamation of the “restauration” of its independenc
 e on May 20, 2002, Timor-Leste travelled a very long, dramatic and bumpy ro
 ad. The exercise of the right to selfdetermination according to the princip
 les enshrined in the UN main documents was only achieved after a lengthy pr
 ocess that mobilized the East Timorese themselves, but also implied the par
 ticipation of many other actors across the globe – national governments, in
 ternational agencies, NGOs and the world public opinion in general – in con
 texts that\nmoved from the height of the Cold War to the demise of the bipo
 lar world. This panel welcomes participants interested in discussing all as
 pects of this process, with a special focus on transnational aspects of the
  long liberation struggle of the people of Timor-Leste
